Electronic Remote Shutter release

I need one for my Canon 514XL-S but am finding it differcult to find one. The only place I have found so far is The Widescreen Centre, but they are very expensive - also I have my eye on ebay of course. Anyone know anywhere else I could get one?

It is not a usual small jack size. It is one smaller than a small jack. I will try anyway.

Do you have a microphone for a tape recorder in the house? Very often these have both the miniature and subminiature style jacks (One for the microphone, one for the remote switch)

Since the mic. I have has the switch on the smaller jack, I can actually use it as a remote for my Super-8 camera.

(Tip: don't bring the camera to the electronics store unless you have a few minutes to explain that yes, movie film is still available and yes, you know all about camcorders! There is never a shortage of "helpful advice" from the uninformed!)

Very often these are very simple to make. If you can find a plug to fit the remote socket, all you need is some wire and a push button.

The plugs are commonly subminiature phone jacks. So look around the house and see if you have an earphone or some other small device that has a small jack. When you find one that fits the camera's socket bring it to a local electronic store and ask for the same size.

Fantastic! The microphone that came with the camera works as a shutter release. I just tryed it. Thx soo much for all your help and advice.
